senior project

"The Senior Project is the capstone project in the major and the culmination of your time at the UW. As such, it is an opportunity to show people (including yourself) what you have learned and what you are capable of doing, as well as a way to assess your own abilities at the end of your time in CEP and the UW. Beyond that, the Senior Project should be something of consequence to you. It should be meaningful to you as well as a source of pride."

Something Is Unfolding

Exploring the Art of Storytelling

Every CEP student must complete a 9-month long research capstone project that culminates the skills and knowledge we've gained in CEP and throughout our time on campus as undergraduate students. Starting from fall quarter of senior year, we begin the preliminary research process and create a research question that guides our project. At the end of the quarter, we submit our preliminary write-up proposal for review.

In winter quarter, we begin the actualization process of the project, using the research and methodology we've outlined as our guide for carrying out the project. Of course, there will be changes that occur as we carry out the project, and the final write-up will incorporate any changes made. We aim to finish 80% of our project by the end of winter quarter so that we can begin the final portion next quarter. Once spring quarter begins, we start creating our presentations for Senior Project Night where we showcase the work we've done for friends, faculty, parents, and others. Because of the pandemic, we've created video presentations so that the event feels more like a "film festival." During the showcase, panelist "judges" ask questions and we explain our process, methodology, and what the final product of our research will be.

My project is titled Something Is Unfolding: Exploring the Art of Storytelling and I look at how communities are shaped by shared stories. I've always been fascinated by stories and have felt the most inspired through storytelling which lead me to wanting to pursue this topic for my project. I strongly believe that storytelling is what shapes human beings and communities are formed through the act of shared storytelling. Through my project, I explore this idea and further create my own experience of sharing stories with those around me.

I've created a site dedicated to my senior project and encourage you to visit the site if you're interested in learning more. I'm proud of the work I did and with how my video turned out (which you can watch on YouTube). I was able to create something using my artistic skills share something I'm passionate about.
